EVENT PROGRAM BOOKS
Through both the company I worked for, and personally on a pro-bono basis, I have designed numerous event program books. For editing purposes, I am displaying only the pages that I designed…the remaining pages were comprised of local business and miscellaneous ads submitted by outside sources.

This was for a local high school marching band’s home competition (my nephew was a drummer in the band, so I HAD to do it!) My goal was to create an engaging “yearbook” type of piece that both the students, staff and parents would treasure as a keepsake.

I had designed the “Pen of Freedom” t-shirt for this year’s show theme, so I also designed their show write-up, that would also appear in programs for other competitions they attended.

I thought it was important to show photos of them practicing, since they do SO much of it!

These next two spreads were designed in honor of their beloved former “legendary” Band Director, who had built their marching program, and former Color Guard Director, who had sadly both passed away the same year.

These were ads I designed for my nephew, who was a senior. One from my sister, and the other from myself. (many parents would submit ads for their children who were graduating seniors)

This was for the home competition of a local competitive high school indoor winter color guard. The "Colors in Motion" graphic was designed to mimic the Marching Band's "Sounds in Motion" logo, replacing the music staff with rainbow colors and adding a flag to the type. I took photos of their flags and stepped them out from in focus to blurred to simulate "motion" and also used their floor tarp as a background, along with the "Masquerade Party" envelope, which was the theme of their show.

This is the write-up for the guard's show theme, which also appeared in the program books of all other competitions they attended that season.

Using photos of past years' performances, along with current year head shots and "action" photos and an interesting layered type presentation create a dynamic and unconventional layout.

Having been in guard myself in high school, this was something I was extremely passionate about. I wanted to place an inspirational ad from myself to the kids, to illustrate what being in guard had taught me and the lessons I carried throughout life.

This page was designed to appeal to the members of all guards in attendance. Using inspirational quotes and the color guard weapon reference, I wanted to create something inspirational that they could really relate to. This was easy for me, because I WAS them, 30 years earlier.

This was for a local contest, in which students submit essays and artwork about influential and important figures and events in black history. The booklet was 48 pages, with 17 essays, 12 works of art and 2 oratorical submissions, but for editing purposes I am displaying just a few representative pages for each section. I used different fonts for each essay, to illustrate the individuality of each student.

This was for a local non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the knowledge, preservation and continued development of African and African-American culture and art, and offers a wide variety of programs and services to children and adults of all ages. The cover artwork was created by a former Arts Center member.

Annual awards breakfast program for local organization whose mission is to foster mutual respect and enhance understanding among all racial, religious and ethnic groups in Schenectady County, and to assist individuals in securing their legal rights. The image of multi-ethnic hands around a globe illustrates the idea of people of all races working together to make a better world.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s Principles of Non-Violence are stated throughout, in support of the Human Right’s Commission’s goal of social justice.

A sub-group of the Schenectady County Human Rights Commission, the MLK Coalition is committed to sustaining Dr. King’s dream of justice and equality for all. This annual event takes place on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to commemorate his life, and influence on civil rights.

This was for a local non-profit organization made up of women volunteers who raise funds to support organizations which support women and girls. Their annual garden tour is one of their biggest fundraising programs.

Dotted lines playfully move across the spreads to simulate the movement of a bee, or perhaps a butterfly, moving from one garden to another.
